Senior Technical Specialist, Product Integration                        

Overview

Ascendant Technology is a fast growing IBM Premier Business Partner who specialise in providing consulting services to a variety of national and international customers using the IBM software portfolio. We are looking for a consultant to join our busy Product Integration team.

 

Role and Responsibilities

We are looking to recruit a Senior Consultant. The successful applicant would be involved in:

  • Installations, configuration, troubleshooting, migration, and upgrades of products within the IBM software brand portfolio
  • Scripting of complex builds using Rational Automation Framework (RAF) and Rational Build Forge
  • Providing consultancy around the design, architecture & performance of enterprise environments
  • Working within project teams both on and off-site

 

Qualities and Qualifications

Candidates should have a minimum of 4 years proven experience with two or more of the following technologies; WebSphere Application Server, WebSphere Portal, IBM Business Process Manger, WebSphere Business Monitor, WebSphere Commerce, Lotus Connections, Quickr etc.  They would also ideally possess an IT degree.

 

A strong background working in enterprise IT and broad knowledge of the technical area is essential. The hiring manager will also be looking for strong skills and experience in scripting, especially using Jython, Perl, Shell & ANT for application deployments and experience of automating the installation/ configuration of WebSphere based products. 

 

The work will require excellent problem solving skills and the highest professionalism when dealing with clients.  Candidates will need to be flexible; working on customer sites, at the company offices or from home as the work requires.  

 

Specific skills of value are:

  • The ability to architect scalable highly available WebSphere based solutions
  • A thorough understanding of the concepts\implications surrounding building resilient and reliable solutions
  • A good knowledge of industry accepted principles and methodologies
  • Installation, configuration and tuning knowledge across the WebSphere product range
  • Solid Unix, Linux and Windows administration skills
  • The ability to take a variety of roles within a team, providing team leadership if required
  • The ability to work well independently under one’s own direction

 

Ideally hold one or more of the following certificates:

IBM Certified System Administrator – IBM WebSphere Application Server Network Deployment V7.0 or above

                   IBM Certified System Administrator – IBM WebSphere Portal V6.1 or above

   IBM Certified System Administrator - WebSphere Commerce V6.0 or above

   IBM Certified Deployment Professional - IBM Business Process Manager Advanced V7.5.1 or above

 

The successful candidate will be provided training to fill any existing skill gaps, but they must already possess knowledge and experience in WAS & scripting, plus one of Portal, Process Server, BPM, Commerce or Lotus Connections as a minimum.

 

All Consultants are required to travel and work on customer sites throughout the UK and Europe, so a valid EU Passport or Visa is essential.
